Re: Informing the locations and availability of the asbestos management plan

On October 22, 1986, President Reagan signed into law the Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA). It required the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to issue regulations requiring all private and public elementary and secondary schools to be inspected for asbestos. To take action in the event that any asbestos containing material was determined to be a possible health hazard and to develop a management plan for each school which would be publicly available and which would contain detailed results of the inspection and records of any actions taken by the school with respect to asbestos.

On October 30, 1987, the EPA issued final regulations as required by law. These rules are widely known as the 1987 Asbestos In Schools Rule, or the AHERA regulations.

This notice is to inform you that in compliance with Regulation 40 CFR Part 763.84 (c) a copy of the Asbestos Management Plan for the above named schools and organizations are available for inspection. To inspect this document you should contact the principal or myself. Copies will be available at the school, administrative office or my office.

Also, regular six month periodic surveillances of asbestos containing materials will be conducted during the months of July and December. Further, if any asbestos response actions (e.g. removal, repair, enclosure, encapsulation, or operations and maintenance) take place in any of our schools, notices will be posted.
