Greetings from the Principal

I am pleased to be able to report to you that the opening of the 2009-2010 school year when very smoothly again this year. Students quickly got back into their school routine of working and studying hard at school and at home.

We have a couple of changes in our staffing for this year. Mrs. Robin Kile has been employed as our "Reading Interventionist". She will work with students who need extra instruction in Reading/Lang. Arts. Mrs. Debbie Thompson transferred from Franklin Elementary School to NFES as our Third Grade teacher.

Mr. William Weltman has been hired as our Music teacher replacing Mrs. Sarah Chiado who has taken a teaching position in another county in West Virginia. We welcome both Mrs. Thompson and Mr. Weltman to our NFES family.

I want to take this opportunity to thank you for making the 2008-2009 school year a success. We are looking forward to this new school year and hope it will be even better!

— John Jenkins, Principal

Accelerated Reader Program
Students at North Fork Elementary School participate in the Accelerated Reader Program. Students choose and read appropriate-level books from the library. Then they take reading practice quizzes on these books. The reading practice quizzes help teachers measure students' comprehension of books read. These quizzes also ensure a successful, positive experience if the student has read a book at the proper level. The computer keeps a record of each student and the points he or she has accumulated. Students receiving the highest points in each class are rewarded with McDonald's coupons.
