Ms. Penny

Pendleton County Schools is delighted to announce with great enthusiasm the arrival of Penny, an adorable school dog, who will play a vital role in bolstering our efforts to support student's mental health.  This momentous occasion is made possible through the gracious contribution of Mrs. Cathy Justice, the esteemed wife of West Virginia Governor Mr. Jim Justice.

Understanding the importance of prioritizing the metal well-being of our students, Pendleton County Schools has been actively exploring innovative methods to address the unique challenges they face. In line with this commitment, Penny, the school dog, will join our educational community as a compassionate resource to provide comfort and emotional support to our students, fostering a positive and nurturing environment.

The introduction of Penny to Pendleton County Schools is a testament to the unwavering dedication of Mrs. Justice, who shares our vision of promoting mental health support for our youth.  Mrs. Justice's exceptional generosity and belief in the transformative power of school animals have been instrumental in making this initiative a reality.

Under the primary guidance and care of Ms. Liz Warner, Penny's designated handler, she will contribute to creating a safe space for students to navigate their emotional challenges. Liz's experience and expertise will ensure that Penny's presence is maximized to benefit out students' mental well-being.

Additionally, we are delighted to announce that Lesley Cook, Ali Judy, and Sonya Ertel have been approved as secondary handlers for Penny.  Their commitment to our students' well-being and their dedication to fostering a positive learning environment have made them invaluable members for our team.

Penny, as a trained therapy dog, will be stationed in designated areas throughout the school, where she will provide unconditional love, companionship, and a calming influence during times of stress or difficulty.  Through her interactions with students, Penny will assist in nurturing empathy, responsibility, and compassion, while also promoting positive social-emotional learning experiences.

Pendleton County Schools extends its sincerest gratitude to Mrs. Cathy Justice for her extraordinary kindness and unwavering support in bringing Penny, the school dog, to our educational community.  This partnership symbolizes our commitment to the well-being and success of our students, both academically and emotionally.

With great anticipation, we eagerly welcome Penny to Pendleton County Middle High School.  Pendleton County Schools remains dedicated to fostering an environment where children's mental health is prioritized, ensuring they have the tools and support they need to flourish.
