Congratulations Shannon Hartman!
Hi, my name is Shannon Hartman. I began this journey as an Educational Sign Language Interpreter with Pendleton County Schools in August 2019. I reside in Petersburg, West Virginia with my husband, Jasper, who works for Greer Lime. We have three wonderful children, Jordan (24), Jacob (23) and Jadyn (19).
My passion for helping the hearing-impaired students of our county began with my own personal journey. My son, Jacob, is profoundly deaf. Having contracted spinal meningitis at six months old, our lives were extremely impacted, given that our communication with our child had changed so abruptly. Since then, I have signed for 24+ years.
As a dedicated mother determined to help my own child become successful, I can proudly say that he has defied all odds and continues to thrive in his endeavors. Jacob is a linebacker for Gallaudet University and is studying athletic conditioning with the goal to ultimately earn his master’s degree in Deaf Education. Experiencing his ability to see and achieve his goals has reminded me that anything is possible for those willing to put in the work. For this reason, I have been inspired to help other hearing-impaired students to reach their full potential. As I work towards earning my bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, I am committed to fulfilling our school motto in providing children success.
